Property owners in Johannesburg can now view, inspect and object their property values online from the 15th of February 2023 to the 31st of March 2023 on the new GVR 2023 Online System.

Dear valued subscribers,

We're reaching out to inform you about a new opportunity available to property owners in the City of Johannesburg and surrounding areas.

As you may know, property owners have the right to inspect the general valuation roll and object to any entries that they disagree with. We're pleased to announce that between February 15th and March 31st, 2023, this process will be available online, making it easier than ever for residents to review and object to their property details.

The system allows property owners to:

Register their profiles Inspect the Valuation Roll Check their property details Upload documents Object against any entries that appear in the Valuation Roll. This extended inspection period will provide residents with 45 days to submit any objections, which is an increase from the usual 21-day period.

It's essential to note that anyone may inspect the Valuation Roll within the inspection period and lodge an objection against any entries that appear in the Valuation Roll.

The Local Government Municipal Property Rates Act No.6 of 2004 (as amended) stipulates that a valuation roll must list all properties in the municipality determined in terms of section 30 (3). The valuation roll must reflect specific particulars in respect of each property as at the date of valuation to the extent that such information is reasonably determinable. These entries may be objected to, including:

The registered or other description of the property The category determined in terms of section 8 in which the property falls The physical address of the property The extent of the property The market value of the property (if the property was valued) The name of the owner, and Any other prescribed particulars. We encourage all property owners to take advantage of this opportunity to review and object to their property details. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact your local authorities for further information.

Thank you for your continued support, and we'll be back soon with more updates.

Best regards,
