Edenvale is a town on the Central ,East Rand in Gauteng, South Africa. Modern Edenvale has become a very well -known part of Ekurhuleni. It lies about halfway between the O.R. Tambo International Airport and the Johannesburg city centre and is located 12km by road from Sandton and about 9km from the closest Gautrain station.
It started out in 1903, after the Anglo Boer War as a small settlement named Rietfontein which sprung up around the Rietfontein Gold Mine. It was made a municipality in 1942.[2] It was initially populated by Cornish mineworkers.
In the last ten years Edenvale has expanded significantly. Its population is now approximately 50 000.Five malls been newly erected, Greenstone and Stoneridge mall, Eden Meadows, Greenstone Crescent and Green Valley as well as an array of complexes and townhouses, in an area now called Greenstone Hill and Greenstone Park, just west of Illiondale.
The area primarily consists of many smaller suburbs within Edenvale. Many of these suburbs such as Dowerglen, Eastleigh Ridge and Harmelia etc - are boomed, sought after road enclosure suburbs. To the East , Edenglen has many sectional title complexes that are secure and affordable . The area is in demand by Tenants and Home Buyers alike.
The area includes attractions such as Gillooly’s Farm, Horwood’s Farm and numerous large shopping malls such as Eastgate and the East Rand Shopping Mall which is just minutes away. Edenvale boasts a tranquillity that many enjoy when wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
